Hello Chickens! Today’s recipe reminds me of my Mom. You’ll notice I write a lot about my Mom, she was a real influence in all areas to me. Since my Mom passed away, I wish that I had spent more time in the kitchen with her and appreciated her skills for just knowing the feel of something or if the consistency was right. So, when I bake, I constantly visit with my Mom inside my thoughts.
Sometime in her 50s, Mom started making chocolates. She made cordial cherries and peanut butter cups for us kids. Giant caramel and pecan turtles for Dad. Chocolate covered candied ginger for Grandma and a variety box for Grandpa. Mom spent hours making these chocolates … six at a time (she had very small molds) … leading up to Christmas. And for each of our weddings, Mom made the creamiest, smoothest, most decadent truffles. Two for each place setting. I hope she knows how much we kids appreciated all of her love and effort!
I’m not a chocolate maker so I was excited to see this recipe for Chocolate Truffle Cookies. I hoped that this would bring back memories of Mom’s silky truffles and they did! Thank you, Sharon Miller of Thousand Oaks, California!
Print This PostChocolate Truffle Cookies
1 ¼ cups butter, softened
2 ¼ cups confectioners’ sugar
1/3 cup baking cocoa (I use Dutch Processed)
¼ cup sour cream
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
¼ cup chocolate sprinkles
1. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, confectioners’ sugar and cocoa until light and fluffy. Beat in sur cream and vanilla. Add flour; mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
2. Shape into 1” balls; dip one side in chocolate sprinkles. Please sprinkled side up 2” apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 325F for 10-12 minutes or until set. Cool for 5 minutes before removing to wire racks.
I will definitely make these again–I think they’ll become a staple on the Christmas baking tray. The cookies are creamy and rich, just like a truffle. I wondered if cooling the dough for 1 hour was too long, the dough was very hard to scoop. And, I have to admit that I’m not a sprinkles lover so these cookies did not have sprinkles on them (neither did Mom’s truffles). Take the advice to cool the cookies for 5 minutes before moving them to your wire racks; they need the time to set up.
These cookies do not disappoint on texture or flavor!
What does Norma say about the Chocolate Truffle Cookies?
I was lucky enough to try Shelley’s Mom’s chocolates and I’m here to tell you they were some of the very best chocolates I’ve ever had! These cookies do a great job of bringing back those wonderful memories and delicious tastes 🙂
