Today we’re going off script to enjoy another wonderful recipe from my favorite home cook, my Mom. I loved the smell of our kitchen on Sundays. This was the day Mom baked bread or buns (or both!) and she prepared a big dinner, complete with a special dessert. Mom spent the whole day in the kitchen, except when she was popping up and down the stairs dealing with laundry or helping with homework. Like a lot of supermoms, my Mom worked full-time and always made the time to make sure we had good, homemade food with plenty of leftovers for lunches. I sure miss those roast beef sandwiches on her fresh bread!

I’m not sure where the Hot Fudge recipe came from, but it’s still a favorite. It always seemed so magical … when it bakes, the cake rises to the top and the sauce turns to a rich chocolate pudding on the bottom. This dessert is an easy go-to when you don’t have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen and it’s best served warm and topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream … “whooping” cream as my youngest son used to call it!
