Today I’d like to introduce you to another special woman in my life, my mother-in-law Judy. We’ve had a lot of adventures together, many of them in Arizona where her Mother spent the winters. Judy and I spent a lot of time together crafting and hosting large family gatherings. Judy is a very loving Grandmother, or “Nana” as her Mom was called. Judy has watched The Lion King too many times to count, attended many blustery soccer games, braved a whistle-filled gym for volleyball tournaments and clapped loudly at ballet recitals.

This recipe for Polka Dot Cookies was one that Judy baked with my husband, Rick. They would do huge batches to share with the family … and, given the density of the dough, I know they’ve burned out more than one mixer!

Polka Dot Cookies
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup milk
12 oz chocolate chips
1 cup maraschino cherries, chopped

1.     In a mixer, cream the butter and gradually add the two sugars until fluffy. Blend in the egg and vanilla.

2.     In a separate large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

3.     Add the dry ingredients, alternately with the milk, to the creamy mixture.

4.     Add the chopped cherries and chocolate chips.

5.     Drop by the spoonful onto a cookie sheet. Bake at 350F for 9 minutes.

This is another cakey cookie that is also creamy and has a nice, strong vanilla flavor. Rick teases me that I only make one batch at a time … I really don’t want to blow out my mix-master! These cookies brown nicely on the bottom but the cookie stays nice and white with the chocolate chips and cherries providing the polka dots!

What does Norma say about these Polka Dot Cookies?  Polka Dot? More like Polka Doozy! 😀 Okay, Norma might need a little less coffee when she’s writing her reviews, but I cannot lie, these little cookies are delightful. A perfect quick bite of  vanilla, cherry and chocolate.

TEMPTATION LEVEL out of 10:  What can I say—we’re on a roll! 10 out of 10.
